The Brothers Tour - details...

The final performance of the Brothers Tour comes to Macclesfield!
British Arts Council funding has enabled 4 British Drumming Bands to train with and perform in their home towns with 3 of the most amazing African musicians led by djembefola (master djembe player) and all round musical superstar Sidiki Dembele from the Ivory Coast (Cote d'ivoire).

Accompanied by the superb Dundunfola (master dundun player) Yahael Camara-Onono from Male and the wonderful sounds of Flute Fulani master (African flute player) Baba Galle Kante from Guinea.

Langley Village based drumming band Kontaani are absolutely honored to be part of this amazing UK tour of beautiful African rhythms and music.

Having trained with Sidiki and Co over the past few months we are proud to bring the Brothers Tour to Macclesfield.

The following weekend there will be an opportunity for folk to join in a djembe drumming workshop led by Sidiki to try African djembe drumming for yourselves - if you already play - you will still be challenged! See separate Kontaani event or register your interest on here.

Proceeds from this unique evening of African loveliness will go to Denfari - a project on the Ivory Coast to fund a music school for orphans and local children to train and learn the wonderful music of this vibrant and beautiful culture. Giving opportunities to train and perform to earn a living from this wonderful art form.

Please help Kontaani to put some of our gratitude for our African drumming music back into Africa by either supporting us on the night or if you can't make it there will be a fundraising page set up soon - every pound helps the Children of Denfari learn to make the wonderful music of their culture for which we Kontaani are so very grateful.

On the night there will be a raffle to win a professional Djembe drum.

Tickets on the door are £5.00

Kontaani will be joined on stage by various guests including the wonderful Holly Marland on Kora (African harp) xxx

More info to follow!

New Date for the Brothers Tour!

We postponed the Brothers Tour performance on the 6th December due to a number of unforseen circumstances.
It is with great pleasure to announce that the performance is going ahead on Friday 27th February at Ronnies Bar - Macclesfield.
Ticket details to be announced soon!

The Brothers Tour

I am completely overwhelmed that my wonderful band and 3 other UK drumming bands, are included in a major British Arts Council grant to train and perform with 'The Brothers'.

The Brothers - namely Sidiki Dembele, Yahs and Baba Gale are all outstanding African musicians and we are exceptionally proud to train with them, not to mention PERFORM with them!

We commenced training last Saturday, to say it was full on is an understatement, but Sidiki's laid back, fun and sympathetic approach to teaching made it so relaxed.  We got stuck in and in no time had learnt two new numbers for our performance. It will take hours and hours of practice to do justice to Sidiki's wonderful teaching but we WILL do him proud!

I have started a blog in order to document the journey of my band. This is an amazing opportunity for Kontaani and I hope many of you will come along to watch the end result on the 6th December at Kiva Club, Macclesfield.

Proceeds of the ticket sales will go towards helping to fund a music school in the Ivory Coast, West Africa. How cool is that?!

Kontaani to support Konkoma!

Woohoo! Chuffed to bits to be asked by Fats to support the mighty Konkoma at their gig on Saturday 27th September at Kiva Club in Macclesfield.
We LOVE Konkoma who play a fusion of Afro/Latin/Funk beautifulness and we can't wait!
It's a real honour for us to share the same stage with these fab guys and to say we are excited is an understatement. I am even cutting my holiday short to come back for it!
Full details to follow shortly but get the date in your diary.

Drums for Sale!

Kontaani now sell drums!

As I am constantly being asked to source drums for students, I have decided to stock some brand new and second hand drums for sale.

The brand new drums are modestly priced for for quality fairly traded workmanship. Most are from Senegal and one of my own performance djembe's is by the same supplier so I can vouch for the quality!

Some of the second hand djembe's are from Ghana and excellent value for those starting out on a budget who wish to upgrade at a later date.

I can also provide superior performance drums for serious drummers, so if your sights are set high for the ultimate djembe or set of dunduns please give me a call.

Please contact me for further details - I will be putting photos and details on the Kontaani Market Place section soon.....

Tess Clarke joins the KONTAANI performance troupe!

I am delighted to announce that my great friend Tess Clarke has joined the Kontaani Performance Troupe!
Tess who is well known for playing with Tanante - one of the UK's most respected and established drumming bands, has joined our own band of happy drummers.
We love Tess to bits and can't believe our luck that she has agreed to join us - Tess is a vibrant character who's complete love of drumming shines out during performances. Commitment to Tanante will mean that she may not be available to play all of our gigs but we will take what we can get - thank you!
Tess brings a wealth of experience, expertise and colour to our Troupe and we are so proud that she has agreed to join us!
Welcome Fairy Tess! xxx
